World Champion Artist ‘Yu Hojin’
Yu Hojin was first introduced to the world of magic when he was 8 years old in 2001. Since then, he has the walked path of turning the world of magic into the world of artistic performances.
When he was an aspiring elementary student in his third grade, Yu Hojin began dreaming to compete at the FISM World Championships of Magic that took place every three years.
With that dream, Hojin began learning magic in a nearby magic academy in 2006, when he was in second grade of middle school. Hojin’s participations in magic competitions were often followed by titles such as ‘the youngest competitor’.
He began to cut a brilliant figure after his Gold Award at the Lotte World Magic Competition in Korea, 2009
Since then, Hojin has won prizes in almost every international magic competition that he entered in various countries such as Taiwan, US, Italy, Hong Kong, and England between 2010 and 2012, finally earning the chance to compete at the World Championships of Magic in 2012.
In July 2012, the FISM World Championships of Magic was held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, UK.
Yu Hojin had prepared an eight minute act for this competition for over 5 years.
After that eight minutes, which shook the world of magic into tears, Yu Hojin was received by a standing ovation of over 3500 audience members, including the jury.
Yu Hojin had made history.
He was awarded the Grand Prix award, as the first Asian magician to ever win the prize. Yu Hojin had broken the old barrier that Asian’s were not given Grand Prix awards, with comments from the audience such as “Yu’s performance was breath taking, a sheer piece of art that was built on magical grounds of grace and beauty. I could not help but cry”. The president of FISM, Eric Eswin praised him saying that “Yu Hojin is now the face of the magic world”
After winning the most prestigious prize at the FISM, Yu Hojin rose into an international star of magic, with many chances to perform all around the world. Currently he stands as one of the magicians at the Illusionists Tour, where only the best magicians have been invited to perform. Yu was also one of the first magicians to perform at the historic Sydney Opera House, and became the first Asian magician to perform in Broadway too.
In April 2014, Yu Hojin was awarded another prestigious award in magic – the Magician of the Year award given by the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.Yu stands as the only Korean magician to have ever won the award, and also as the youngest magician in the world to have won the award too.
Yu Hojin now travels about 300 days every year, performing around the world. During his travels, Yu brings joy and the experience of magic to the audience.
Yu Hojin’s magic is pure art. He strives to transform the whole world’s magic into art with every step that he takes.
