At the beginning of the 20th century, memory was considered a form of true magic: without the aid of any trick, mnemonists were capable of performing mental feats that left audiences spellbound.
They were real “jugglers of the mind,” able to transform their abilities into spectacles of wonder and amazement. Over the years, magicians have tried to replicate these skills using tricks and gimmicks, but the pure essence of memory remains a magic that few can truly master.
Among them, Vanni De Luca stands out. As the great quick-change artist Arturo Brachetti writes about him: “Vanni is here, young and dynamic, among us in the 21st century, and with his refined eloquence, he still manages to make us appreciate paradoxes, miracles, and mysteries. Vanni is the juggler of the mind and the unconscious, the living proof that our brain is still a planet full of unexplored resources.”
Through his art, Vanni not only celebrates the potential of memory but turns it into a vivid and astonishing experience for contemporary audiences, taking us back in time to when true magic was the magic of the mind.
In 2016, Vanni won the title of Italian Magic Champion at the Masters of Magic in Saint Vincent and was crowned World Champion of Street Magic. The previous year, he claimed the title of Italian Mentalism Champion and won the award for Best Performer at the Buskers Festival in Ferrara, one of the most prestigious international street artist events.
In the summer of 2022, Vanni made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the world’s largest arts festival, with his show Prodigies, earning praise from prominent figures such as Professor Richard Wiseman and physicist and science communicator Simon Singh.
